Infectious Disease
Also known as: HSV-2 IgG antibody test
If you experience new or worsening sores, fever, flu-like symptoms, or severe pain, contact your clinician. Seek urgent care for symptoms like severe headache, stiff neck, or confusion, which could indicate a serious complication.
This test finds special proteins in your blood. These proteins are called IgG antibodies. Your body's defense system makes them. It makes them when it has been exposed to the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2.
Your doctor orders this test to see if you have the HSV-2 virus. This is especially true if you have signs of genital herpes. It is also true if your partner has genital herpes.
Reference ranges for this test can vary by laboratory. Your healthcare provider will interpret your results based on your health history and any symptoms you have.
