CBC / Hematology
Also known as: Hb, Hgb, H&H
Contact your clinician if you experience severe fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest pain, especially if these symptoms are new or worsening.
This test checks how much hemoglobin is in your blood. Hemoglobin is a protein in your red blood cells. It has iron in it. Hemoglobin carries oxygen from your lungs. It takes this oxygen to all parts of your body.
Your doctor orders this test to see if you have anemia. Anemia means your blood does not carry enough oxygen. This test can also help find other blood problems. It can also check on blood problems you already have.
Hemoglobin reference ranges can vary by laboratory, and interpretation may depend on your age, sex, pregnancy status, and overall health.
