Haptoglobin

Also known as: HP

CPT 84075Quest 863LabCorp 322000
Critical — Seek Care

If you experience sudden severe fatigue, yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or shortness of breath, contact your clinician immediately or seek urgent care.

What It Measures

Haptoglobin is a protein your liver makes. It helps your body remove hemoglobin from red blood cells. This happens when red blood cells break apart. This test checks the amount of haptoglobin in your blood.

Why It's Ordered

Your doctor orders this test to check your red blood cells. They want to see if your body is destroying them too fast. This can cause a type of anemia called hemolytic anemia. This test helps your doctor find out why you might feel tired or look pale.

Reference Range

Haptoglobin levels can vary by laboratory, and interpretation may depend on your age, sex, and other health conditions.
