Stool / GI
Also known as: FIT Immunochemical, fecal occult blood test, iFOBT
If you experience symptoms like unexplained weight loss, persistent changes in bowel habits, severe abdominal pain, or visible blood in your stool, contact your clinician promptly or seek urgent care.
The FIT test checks for blood in your poop that you can't see. It looks for a protein called hemoglobin. This protein is in your red blood cells. It comes from your lower intestines.
Doctors often order this test to look for colon cancer. They also use it to find hidden bleeding in your stomach and intestines. This bleeding could be from other health problems.
FIT results are typically reported as positive, negative, or invalid, rather than a numerical value. Interpretation can vary by lab and clinical context.
