The CK-MB test checks for a special enzyme in your blood. This enzyme is called creatine kinase-MB. You mostly find this enzyme in your heart muscle cells.
Your doctor orders this test to see if your heart muscle has been hurt. This can happen during a heart attack. The test also helps tell if muscle damage is from your heart or from other muscles in your body.
Reference ranges for CK-MB can vary between different laboratories. Your doctor will interpret your results based on the specific ranges used by the lab that performed your test.
